Early Life
Yuri Lopez, born in Camagüey, Cuba, on December 10, 1968, was destined to become a watchmaker. In his youth, he would often visit his uncle’s school of horology. There, he developed an interest in his uncle’s microscope and would frequently find himself staring through it, if not playing with the device. To prevent the boy from breaking the microscope, Yuri’s uncle began sitting him down and teaching him about the tools and the mechanisms of timepieces.
Yuri grew passionate about the mechanical side of the craft and decided to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer. He successfully graduated from the University of Camagüey and worked as a mechanical engineer for one year, but something was missing. His uncle then presented him with an opportunity to attend a newly established watchmaking course, and Yuri immediately knew this was what he had been searching for.
He studied for two years at his uncle’s school in Camagüey, where he received his certificate of course completion as a watchmaker.
Vision
After becoming a watchmaker, Yuri envisioned transcending his capabilities in the field. To learn all he could from the best, he and his family would have to immigrate to the United States. To realize his vision and provide for his family, Yuri set to work in 2004 on the shores of Miami, Florida.
Career
Yuri Lopez’s early career began at Breitling, where in 2006 he successfully completed the Breitling Emergency course, marking the start of his professional career. After four years, he began working as a Mayors watchmaker, passing a Rolex course in Lititz, Pennsylvania, alongside his fellow watchmakers in 2011.
After two years at Mayors, Yuri made the ambitious decision to become self employed under his own watch repair company, thus Chrono Sky was born.
While running and managing his one man operation, Yuri continued his formal education, successfully completing the Swatch Group Service Provider Training Course in 2011. This training included basic mechanical movements, the co-axial escapement, brand specific case assembly and disassembly, and refinishing. Since then, every year Yuri has continued to expand his knowledge through various brand led and organized school courses and certifications see Certificates and Awards.
For 15 years, across three locations, Chrono Sky has been spearheaded by the tenacity, passion, and unwavering pursuit of perfection that Yuri continues to express each and every day in his work.
Currently
Yuri is currently working as the owner and as one of the many watchmakers in his service center in Miami, Florida. Striving to preserve the tradition of horology through working with private clients and top fine watchmaking brands drives him forward and keeps his passion alive.
